This lecture examines the critical challenges and strategic solutions for maintaining the stability and resilience of Ukraine’s electric power systems under wartime conditions. Emphasis will be placed on enhancing power generation capacity across regions, mitigating risks to infrastructure, and implementing advanced protection mechanisms.
Key topics of discussion include:
- restoration strategies: advanced methodologies for repairing and reinforcing damaged power networks;
- resilient grid design: engineering approaches for constructing protected and self-healing grids;
- infrastructure hardening: implementation of advanced materials and technologies to enhance the robustness of power transmission and distribution systems;
- mobile and distributed generation: integration of modular power sources, including mobile gas turbines and decentralized shunting electricity generation;
- alternative and microgrid operation strategies: the role of microgrids and renewable energy sources in ensuring energy security;
- energy storage solutions: the application of battery storage and other energy buffering techniques to stabilize power supply;
- hydrogen energy and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs): exploring the potential of emerging energy technologies for resilient power generation;
- cybersecurity and grid management: protecting energy infrastructure from cyber threats and ensuring operational continuity.
This lecture aims to provide a comprehensive overview of innovative approaches and technological advancements that can strengthen Ukraine’s power sector against external threats and disruptions.
