CIE

International Commission on Illumination (abbreviated as CIE from the French name of the organization) is a world-wide scientific, technical and cultural non-profit self-funding organization established in 1900 in Paris on the basis of the Commission Internationale de Photometrie (later moved to Vienna). Organization gathers specialists interested in various aspects of light, lighting, ultraviolet and near infrared radiation from 55 countries as full and associated members. The CIE is administrated by the Board of Administration elected for four-year terms by the General Assembly, which is composed by the Directors of the National Committees (NCs). The President of the CIE is currently Peter Blattner from METAS, Switzerland.

The objectives of the organization are:

  • to provide an international forum for the discussion of all matters related to the science, technology and art in the fields of light and lighting;
  • to provide guidance in the application of principles and procedures in the development of international and na-tional standards in the fields of light and lighting;
  • to develop and publish standards, reports and other publications concerned with all matters relating to science, technology and art in the fields of light and lighting, also in cooperation with ISO and IEC;
  • to maintain liaison and technical interaction with other international organizations concerned with related matters.

The research and technical work of experts at CIE is conducted in Technical Committees (currently 65 active TCs, also in cooperation with ISO). After elaboration each Technical Report, Technical Note or International Standard is evaluated, commented and accepted by proper Division. CIE Poland

NC from each of full members can recommend 1 representative to each of 6 topic Divisions of the CIE. The CIE NC in Poland is Polski Komitet Oświetleniowy SEP.
